[Abstract] This research project is an investigation of the experience of the needy inner child. The author opens by revealing the personal experiences that have led her to this topic of study, and continues on to define the terms pertinent to understanding the question at hand. A literature review of scientific abstracts and journal articles revealed no heuristic studies of this question. There are, however, several pieces of contemporary literature related to the topic, and are included. The heuristic research methods and procedures used are outlined, and the background of the participants are described. A selection of data is presented under the eight themes that emerged during the handling of the data phase of the research. These themes are: fear, insatiable/internal |black hole,| lack of early parental nurturing, lack of protection, survival, search for fulfillment/satiation, loneliness/isolation, and anger. Finally, a synthesis is offered that pulls together the feelings of the author as she completed the final stages of her study. Various implications of the research findings are discussed and their possible application are outlined. The major conclusion is that the individual who has had to endure the pain and suffering that predisposed him or her to t e development of a needy inner child is a powerful and courageous person. He or she has had to endure and, as a result, can savor and enjoy the sweet taste of their victories and triumphs of the self.
